Events dedicated to 400th Parkash Purab to be organized throughout the year: Badungar

A meeting of the high-level committee constituted by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur with regards to celebration of the 400th Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the ninth Guru, was held under the leadership of Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar at the SGPC office on Wednesday.

In the meeting, SGPC senior vice-president S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, general secretary Adv Bhagwant Singh Sialka, chief secretary Adv Harjinder Singh Dhami, SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh, Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, S. Jarnail Singh Dogranwala, S. Mangwinder Singh Khaparkheri, S. Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhayasi, S. Gurinderpal Singh Gora, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, S. Chamkaur Singh director and co-coordinator S. Simarjeet Singh assistant secretary and others were present.

Giving information about the gathering, former SGPC president Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar informed that Gurmat Samagam will be held on April 29, 30 and May 1 at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall Amritsar on the occasion of 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, in which prominent Panthic and religious personalities will participate.

Prof Badungar said that Sri Akhand Path Sahib would be inaugurated on April 29 at Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, the birthplace of the ninth Guru, with bhog (culmination) on May 1.

Prof Badungar said that Gurmat Samagam would be held in memory of Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dayala Singh.

He also informed that a Gurmat Samagam dedicated to Bhai Jaita Ji (Bhai Jeewan Singh) would be held on arrival of the Nagar Kirtan at Sri Anandpur Sahib that started from Gurdwara Guru Ka Mahal.

Similarly, a function will be held in Kashmir in memory of Bhai Kirpa Ram who visited Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with the request of the Kashmiri Pandits.

Prof Badungar said that the year round events dedicated to the 400th centenary would include seminars in schools and colleges and writing competitions for the students.

He said that during this time marathons dedicated to tolerance and human rights would be held at various places. Apart from this, slideshows on the life of Guru Sahib and human rights will also be conducted.

Prof Kirpal Singh Badungar said that students’ quiz competitions and world-class conferences of teachers and students would also be organized.

It was also decided at the meeting that efforts would be made to hold Sikh conferences abroad. Books will also be published to acquaint the sangat with the life history of the ninth Guru. It was also decided to have light and sound show and nukkar natak (street play).

He said that the year round events would be dedicated to Bhai Jaita Ji, Bhai Makhan Shah Lubana, Bhai Lakhi Shah Vanjara and other Sikhs.

On this occasion additional secretary S. Partap Singh, assistant secretary Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, S. Sulakhan Singh Bhangali, S. Harjinder Singh Kaironwal and others were present.
