Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring stated on Monday that the Election Commission of India had completely failed to enforce the model code of conduct for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by poll, and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party was brazenly violating all the rules.
In a letter to the Punjab chief electoral officer, he said the Government buses plying to Jalandhar Parliamentary constituency or passing through Jalandhar from other parts of state were still keeping the Government advertisements, despite the model code of conduct being in force.
He asked the election commission to instruct the transport department to remove immediately all the advertisements pasted on the buses.
Several Congress leaders also referred to violations in the run up to the Aam Aadmi Party candidate, Sushil Rinku’s nomination filing at the district administration complex. They said on the route leading to the district administration complex, the AAP installed scores of flex boards without due permission from the authorities and without printing the names of the printers and publishers.
Despite dozens of complaints on the cVIGIL app, the advertisements were not removed by the authorities, the leaders said, adding that the complaints were marked “correct” on the app but the advertisement boards were still not removed.
“Two flex boards were installed even at the gates of the district administration complex. It appears as though the entire district administration is acting as an extension of the Aam Aadmi Party,” a Congress leader said.
