New Delhi, 15 January, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
While reacting on the ongoing delay in the election of the Executive Board of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Mr Inder Mohan Singh, Expert in Delhi Gurdwara Affairs raised demand for fresh general elections in all the 46 Gurdwara Wards in Delhi. He said that during gurdwara elections held in August 2021, about 37 percent Sikh Voters participated including young voters attaining the age of 18 years as on January 1, 2021.
Despite the whole year 2021 has passed, but the General House of DSGMC could not be constituted, even oath taking ceremony is yet to be held. He said that the new General House is to be constituted in the year 2022, as such in order to choose members for this new House, the youth attaining age of 18 years as on January 1, 2022 should also be allowed to participate in this election process.
Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that hence it is necessary to hold fresh General Elections in which all the candidate should be asked to appear in the Punjabi language test and only those who qualify this test should be allowed to file nomination papers. He said that this will help to stop dozens of pending Election petitions.
Mr Inder Mohan Singh said that the DSGMC Co-option process has not yet been completed despite a lapse of 5 months because whereas the Co-option of first President of Singh Sabha Gurdwaras is pending adjudication before the Delhi High Court, the notification of another Singh Sabha President chosen in draw of lot held on January 5, 2022 has still not been issued due to some dispute.
He said that fresh meeting is slated to be called by the Director Gurdwara Elections for Co-option of another Singh Sabha President due to which there are very remote chances of holding of election of DSGMC Executive Board in the near future.
