Dr Depinder Kaur, a retired principal with extensive experience in higher education, has assumed charge as Academic Member of the Punjab Educational Tribunal.
The Bhagwant Mann Government appointed Dr Kaur to the post through an official notification for a three-year term.
After taking charge, Dr Kaur expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains for entrusting her with the responsibility. She said she would perform her duties with integrity, dedication and diligence and work in accordance with government rules, regulations and instructions.
Dr Kaur said she would focus on reforms in the education sector, address issues concerning teachers and students and contribute towards strengthening the education system. She said fairness, sensitivity and dedication would guide her approach to the responsibilities assigned to her.
Profile of Dr Depinder Kaur
Born on January 5, 1968, in Nadaun, Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, Dr Kaur is the daughter of Rajinder Singh Hajuria and Harjeet Kaur. She completed her early education at various schools in Himachal Pradesh and topped the Class 10 examinations from Dharamshala in 1982.
She completed her B.Sc. (Medical) from D.A.V. College, Kangra, in 1987, followed by an M.Sc. in Chemistry in 1989. She earned an M.Phil. in Physical Chemistry in 1990 with a gold medal and completed her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Himachal Pradesh University in 1993.
Dr Kaur began her teaching career on January 16, 1995, as a lecturer at Government College, Ropar. After serving there for around 12 years, she joined Government College, S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali, as Associate Professor on July 6, 2007.
She was transferred to Post Graduate Government College, Chandigarh, on May 12, 2010, where she guided students for nearly 16 years.
On July 19, 2024, she was promoted and appointed Principal of Government State College of Education, Patiala. She served in the position until her retirement on January 31, 2026, handling academic and administrative responsibilities assigned by the DPI (Colleges).
During her career, Dr Kaur served as a Senate member and Board of Studies member at Punjabi University, Patiala. She also worked as an expert with the Directorate of Higher Education, Punjab, and contributed to the academic and institutional development of educational institutions.
