Diljit Dosanjh was born on January 6, 1984, in the small village of Dosanjh Kalan, located in the Phillaur tehsil of the Jalandhar district in the Indian state of Punjab. He hails from a Punjabi humble family. His father worked as a bus driver in Punjab Roadways and earned around Rs. 5,000 a month.
Dosanjh began singing Sikh music at local gurdwaras while still in school. He made his debut as a singer in 2004 with his album “Ishq Da Uda Adaa” and has since released several albums. He made his acting debut in 2011 with the Punjabi film “The Lion of Punjab” and has since acted in several Punjabi and Hindi films.
Dosanjh has won several awards for his work in music and films. In 2017, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actor Male for the film “Udta Punjab,” Filmfare Punjabi Award for Best Actor Male for the film “Ambarsariya” & Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song “Mitran Da Junction” (Sardaarji 2). In 2018, he won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the Most Trending Personality of the Year.
Diljit Dosanjh was one of the judges on the Indian version of the singing reality show “Rising Star” in 2017. He also performed at Coachella in 2023.
