Dera Baba Nanak Bye-Election: Big Setback for Sukhjinder Randhawa; AAP’s Gurdeep Singh Randhawa Wins

Dera Baba Nanak, November 23, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa Saturday suffered a big setback in the Dera Baba Nanak by-election as his wife Jatinder Kaur Randhawa lost to AAP Candidate Gurdeep Singh Randhawa. Gurdeep Randhawa defeated Jatinder Kaur Randhawa by a margin of 5722 votes.

‘Aam Aadmi Party’ candidate Gurdeep Singh Randhawa got 59044 votes while Jatinder Kaur Randhawa got 53322 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party candidate, former Akali leader Ravikaran Singh Kahlon got only 6449 votes and his deposit was forfeited.

Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency seat fell vacant after Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha election and the Congress party fielded his wife Jatinder Kaur Randhawa as its candidate.

This is a big setback for senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa as he is a former Deputy Chief Minister of the state as well as a national level leader. He is in charge of Rajasthan Congress and a Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur.

This is the first time that any leader has succeeded in breaking the stronghold of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and his family.
