Dengue Surveillance Teams to conduct door-to-door survey of houses to check Larva in Hoshiarpur, Dasuya

Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait on Thursday flagged off dengue surveillance teams comprising 60 volunteers to keep dengue at bay in the district by visiting door to door and destroying larva.

Accompanied by Civil Surgeon Dr Ranjeet Singh, District Employment Officer Gurmail Singh, Dr Sailaish, Placement Officer Mangesh Sood, Career Counsellor Aditya Rana and others, Deputy Commissioner said that these teams would screen every house in Hoshiarpur and Dasuya urban areas.

She said that apart from checking the larva, the teams would also carry out the registration of ‘Mr. Clean’ project under which professional training in car washing is being imparted.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the volunteers to ensure their services with utmost dedication and proactive approach so that maximum people could be sensitize about dengue, one of the major vector-borne disease.

She said that special jackets, ID cards and kit bags have been provided to the volunteers and they would carry out the survey while following all Covid protocols. She said during last year, these surveillance teams had also worked efficiently resulting in the district witnessed fewer cases.

Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people to cooperate and support these teams when they would arrive to inspect the larva in their houses. She added that as many as 38362 houses and 198646 people were covered by these teams last year.

The teams conducted the survey of houses six time with covering 237400 houses and detected 12153 larva cases. The teams also checked 1262071 containers and found 13092 larva which were immediately destroyed by teams, she said.

Apneet Riyait informed that the volunteers of Dengue Surveillance Teams had been selected by the District Employment Bureau with preference to needy and Divyang candidates, who had already applied for jobs. She said that these volunteers had been imparted proper training by the Health Department.
