Covid Vaccination Dry Run: Training imparted to SMOs, Doctors & ANMs

Patiala District to conduct Dry Run for COVID Vaccination at three sites; Rajindra Hospital (Govt Facility), Sadbhavna Hospital (Private Facility) and Community Health Center Shutrana, tomorrow, said the deputy commissioner, Kumar Amit after chairing the review cum training meeting, held today, at Government Mata Kaushalya Hospital Patiala.

Divulging the details, Mr Kumar Amit said that as per the instructions of the Department of Family and Welfare Punjab, Patiala would be the third district after Ludhiana and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, where the Dry Run is being conducted to check the preparations and other arrangements before conducting the real vaccination drive in near future.

In this regard, 15 vaccination teams based on Supervisors, SMOs, Doctors and ANMs were briefed about the whole process they have to adopt on January 3 during Dry Run, added the deputy Commissioner.

During the training session, experts from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and World Health Organization examined the modalities prescribed for introduction of Covid-19 vaccine in the health system. The test link of the Co-Win portal set up for the exercise, including the prescribed operation method, was explained in detail.

On this occasion Mr. Kumar Amit informed that on 3rd January the dummy immunization practice would be conducted at Rajindra Hospital (Government Medical College), Private facility Sadbhavna Hospital and Outreach facility CHC Shutrana have been finalised.

He said that as per the directions of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and the Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, all preparations for this exercise have been completed. He said that the purpose of this exercise was to test the preparations for Corona Vaccination so that after the successful launch of immunisation drive on the registered beneficiaries, the rest of the categories to be covered successfully.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the dry run that was being conducted on January 3, would paves the way for administering the Vaccine to the beneficiaries already identified through Corona Vaccination Electronic Application Co-Win, including Health Care Workers (approximately 8716 from private and public sector) under the first phase, ranging from cleaners to doctors.

In the second phase, the vaccine will be given to frontline workers, those having age above 50 years and the persons with serious illness. He clarified that this vaccine will not be available in general but this vaccine will be given only to those who have already registered on the portal.

During the training, UNDP Project Officer (Operations), Meenakshi Deol said that mandatory COVID precautions, social distancing of minimum 6 feet, proper sanitation of hands and wearing a mask should be maintained at the time of vaccination besides maintaining the confidentiality of the beneficiary.

During the rehearsal, she explained in detail about the introduction of COVID-19 vaccination, planning, completion process, operation method of Co-win application, challenges and its various stages.

World Health Organization, SMO, Dr. Gagan Sharma said that the beneficiary must be registered for this vaccination and he must be monitored for half an hour after administering the vaccine. On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr. Preeti Yadav asked all the teams to discharge their responsibilities diligently so that this exercise could be carried out successfully.

Later on, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar Amit accompanied by COVID Incharge of Rajindra Hospital Mrs. Surbhi Malik and ADC (D) Dr. Preeti Yadav reviewed the preparations at Ward No. 5 of Rajindra Hospital, where the corona vaccination exercise is to be held on January 3.

During the training at Mata Kaushalya Hospital, Civil Surgeon Dr. Satinder Pal Singh, Extra Assistant Commissioner (UT) Jagnur Singh Grewal, State Immunization Officer Dr. Balwinder Kaur, District Immunization Officer Dr. Veenu Goyal, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Parveen Puri, District Health Officer Jatinder Kansal and senior medical officers were also present.
