The Congress has questioned the silence of BJP’s ‘Marg Darshak Mandal’ over the new Agri laws being opposed by the farmers and the treatment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government towards farmers.
Congress national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill today said it was strange that the BJP ‘Margdarshak Mandal’ comprising of senior leaders Lal Krishan Advani, MM Joshi, and Shanta Kumar have not raised their voices either against or for the farmers.
Shergill said the farmers of India were sitting on a dharna in chilly December for the last 28 days against the anti-farmer laws brought by the Modi government without any consultation with stakeholders, especially farmers.
The Congress leader said it was hugely disappointing that the senior leaders have chosen to remain silent even as more than 23 precious lives have already been lost during the historic agitation of farmers fought by them for their rights.
Shergill said that the ‘Margdarshak Mandal’ must have noted how BJP leaders were labeling our ‘annadatas’ as ‘Khalistanis’. He asked whether the three senior leaders have their tacit support to these anti-farmer laws, the treatment being meted out to agitating men, women, and children, and the political rhetoric of BJP leaders against farmers?
“Can’t these veterans of Indian politics feel the pain of aging farmers, women and children?”, Shergill said adding that it was highly regrettable that instead of showing the ‘right marg’ to the government the veteran leaders have chosen to be ‘mook darshaks’ (mute spectators).
The Congress leader asked the constituents of ‘Margdarshak Mandal’ whether they will clarify their stand on farmers’ issues and government’s mishandling of their protests or choose to continue to keep their golden silence intact.
