Congress MP Gurjeet Aujla Raises Questions on Stalled Flyover Projects in Amritsar

Amritsar, Dec 11, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

The incomplete flyover projects in Amritsar once again resonated on the national stage when Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla directly questioned Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in the Lok Sabha. Aujla stated that despite the allocation of major highway projects to Amritsar, virtually no work is being done on the ground, while the public is facing severe traffic congestion and inconvenience daily.

Three crucial flyovers in the city—the 6-lane flyover at Baba Bakala, the 6-lane flyover at Walla, and the Loharka Road flyover—have been incomplete for a long time. Aujla informed that the work has been completely stalled for an extended period, and the situation is continuously deteriorating due to administrative apathy.

MP Aujla also leveled serious allegations of massive irregularities and corruption in the construction of the Daburji and Golden Gate flyovers.

He stated that he had raised objections during the construction itself, pointing out that the structure was weak and could lead to accidents in the future—and now those very bridges appear to be on the verge of collapse. He warned that this is not just a case of negligence, but a matter of putting thousands of lives at risk.

Aujla further added that even the flyovers where construction is ongoing lack basic infrastructure. Service lanes have not been constructed, despite the issue being raised with the Project Director multiple times, who consistently ignored the concerns. The MP said that all this points to corruption and systemic negligence.

Questioning Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Lok Sabha, Aujla demanded the formation of a high-level inquiry committee to investigate all the stalled projects in Amritsar.

He emphasized that it is crucial to determine why the work has stopped, at what level corruption has occurred, and which officials are repeatedly ignoring the complaints. He stressed that the people of Amritsar deserve answers, and the central government should take immediate action.
