Congress holds statewide protests, demands sacking of Fauja Singh Sarari

Chandigarh, October 10, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
Punjab congress on Monday has held protest demonstrations all across the state at offices of the deputy commissioners demanding immediate sacking of the cabinet minister Fauja Singh Sarari.

Senior Congress Leader and Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa who led the statewide protests said it was high time Bhagwant Mann stopped protecting a his corrupt minister Sarari.

“ It has been nearly a month since the audio clip of Fauja Singh Sarari had gone viral on the social media where he is clearly heard negotiating a deal with his officer on special duty (OSD) Tarsem Lal Kapoor while planning to extort money from the government officials”, said Bajwa.

Bajwa said the congress party had raised the issue in the recently concluded four days session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha also but the treasury benches led by Bhagwant Mann refused to act against the corrupt minister.

“ We even tried to persuade Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Kultar Singh Sandhawan to allow the opposition to have a thorough debate on Fauja Singh Sarari’s corrupt practices but the former denied it on a very flimsy ground. The adamant attitude of the Punjab government led to the adjournment of the state assembly several times as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, cabinet ministers and even the chief minister Bhagwant Mann went out of their way to protect Sarari”, said Bajwa.

Bajwa reminded Bhagwant Mann of former health minister Dr. Vijay Singla who was sacked and later arrested merely on an audio clip which was never made public by the AAP government. Though it was a different matter that Vijay Singla continued to enjoy full support of the AAP and has not yet been sacked from the primary membership of the party.

It was common knowledge that even Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha tried to broker peace between Fauja Singh Sarari and Tarsem Lal Kapoor. “ Which means instead of acting against the corrupt minister Raghav Chadha and company was trying hard to strike a truce between Sarari and Kapoor.”, said Bajwa.

Bhagwant Mann should know that both Sarari and Kapoor had already admitted in public that the voices in the audio clip actually belonged to them and hence the AAP government could have made no excuse about the authenticity of the clip, said Bajwa.
