Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday transferred ₹52.20 crore to the accounts of 1.37 lakh Satkar Sakhis on Raksha Bandhan, recognising their role in implementing the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna across the state.
Addressing the Satkar Sakhis’ honour ceremony virtually at Goindwal Sahib, Mann said their grassroots efforts had helped register more than 75 lakh women under the scheme and facilitated the delivery of financial assistance to beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister said 76.11 lakh women had been registered under the scheme so far, of whom 68.06 lakh had already received ₹2,381 crore in financial assistance. The government has set a target of bringing one crore women under the scheme.
Mann said Satkar Sakhis would receive ₹300 for every registration. The first instalment of ₹51.20 crore had already been released at the rate of ₹100 per registration, he said, adding that the Satkar Sakhis could collectively earn more than ₹200 crore once the target was achieved.
Describing the Raksha Bandhan disbursement as a special gesture towards women, Mann said the Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojna had been introduced to uphold the dignity and self-respect of women.
Under the scheme, women above 18 years of age receive ₹1,000, while SC women receive ₹1,500, with the assistance transferred directly into their bank accounts. Mann said the government expects 97 per cent of women in Punjab to benefit from the scheme and has allocated ₹9,300 crore in the state budget for the initiative.
He said the financial assistance may not make women wealthy but would provide them with dignity, self-respect and greater financial autonomy. He also urged eligible women who had not yet registered to enrol under the scheme.
Mann said the scheme would not be discontinued as long as the AAP government remained in power in Punjab. He urged Satkar Sakhis to remain connected with the families they had registered and continue supporting them beyond the registration process.
AAP Punjab Women Wing president and MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur praised the Satkar Sakhis and the women wing for their grassroots work. She said their role extended beyond helping women fill forms and included providing support to beneficiary families.
Kaur also highlighted various government initiatives for women and said the AAP government had increased women’s representation in public life, employment and leadership. She said Punjab had 11 women MLAs and that women had also been given responsibilities as chairpersons, Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police.
Kaur further described the women wing as a strong grassroots force for the Aam Aadmi Party and said it would play a major role in the party’s campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora and Harbhajan Singh ETO also highlighted government initiatives for the welfare and development of Punjab and expressed confidence that the AAP would return to power with a strong majority.
The programme was attended by AAP Punjab Women Wing president and MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur, MLA Dr Jeevanjot Kaur, MLA Inderjit Kaur, Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora and Harbhajan Singh ETO, along with other MLAs and dignitaries.
