CM Bhagwant Mann Inaugurates Ferozepur Feeder Canal Relining Project in Makhu

CM Bhagwant Mann today inaugurated the first phase of relined project of Ferozepur Feeder Canal in Makhu and said that 2678 cusec water will be increased in the canal after the relining. He said that due to excess water, the tal end villages of Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar and Faridkot district will be benefitted.

While addressing a huge congregation of the party workers after the inauguration ceremony, CM Mann said that the first phase of the project has been completed within a record period of time of 35 days with a cost of Rs. 180 crores. Mann said due to this project, the fruit growers of Abohar and Fazilka area will also get benefit due to this project. “Earlier 5000 cusec water used to flow in Ferozepur feeder but now it has increased upto 2678 cusec”, said Mann.

Mann said earlier, the people belonging to border villages used to get polluted Pakistani ternaries water for irrigation. “Sutlej enters in Pakistan near Hussainiwala and when it comes back to India, its water gets polluted due to tanneries in Kasur. But now the residents belonging to affected villages including Kilcha Rahela, Rate Wali Bhani, Dona Mahatar in Fazilka district will get clean Ferozepur feeder water through Luther Headworks”, said Mann .

Mann claimed that to ensure the supply of canal water to 1365 remote villages, the government has laid 2200 km pipeline and has spent 6500 crore rupees. “This is for the first time since independence, when the canal water has reached to these 1365 villages about which no previous government even thought about”, said Mann.

Mann said that when Punjab was facing the fury of floods last year, they had asked Rajsthan and Haryana to take the excess water but they refused. “We asked Rajsthan government whether now they want the excess water but they refused. Haryana government also refused for the excess water but overall both Rajasthan and Haryana ask for Punjab’s water. We have no access water to give to anyone”, said Mann.

During his address Mann also targeted former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and accused him of SYL Issue. “It was Badal who permitted Haryanan CM Chaudhary Devi Lal for the survey and also took Rs. 2 crores as government fund”, said Mann adding that Badal was later obligated in different ways also.

“Why they want SYL (Satluj Yamuna Link). I ask them to make Yamuna Sutlej Link and give the excess water to Punjab”, Mann quipped.

While targeting another former Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, CM said that it was Capt Amarinder who had come with a silver hoe. “How people like him can even claim that they are the protector of Punjab’s welfare. They don’t even know in which party they are right now”, said Mann.

While slamming SAD President Sukhbir, Mann said that Sukhbir’s ongoing Punjab Bachao Yatra” is actually “Pariwar Bachao Yatra”. “Ih ta apna pariwar iktahha kar rahe ne. They have no vision for Punjab”, said Mann. He also slammed Sukhbir for gangsters leave Punjab remark and said that in reality Sukhbir want the gangsters to contest elections for the next assembly polls as they did in Tarn Taran bypolls recently

During his address, Cabinet Minister (Water Resources) Barinder Goyal said that to strengthen the canal system in the state and prevent future floods, the department has been undertaking important works, including lining canals as well as constructing and reinforcing embankments. He added that in villages where groundwater had fallen into the “black zone,” water levels have now begun to return to normal.

Darshan Singh, a farmer from Makhu, said that the relining project would greatly benefit farmers, as it would increase the water-carrying capacity and ensure that farmers receive canal water without any difficulty. He said that the government’s effort is very commendable.

Joginder Singh, a farmer from Gurdittewala village, said that for the first time he has seen farmers being allowed to use canal water. He said that this would help conserve groundwater and farmers would not have to face difficulties in irrigating their fields.

On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur, Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, MLAs Naresh Kataria, Rajneesh Dahiya, Ranbir Bhullar, Fauja Singh Sarari, Jagdeep Singh Goldy Kamboj, Gurdit Singh Sekhon, along with Shaminder Singh Khindha, Shankar Kataria, Malkit Thind, District President Harjinder Singh Ghanga and others were present.
