Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today said that the Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi should have resigned on moral grounds after the grave security lapse during the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Punjab on January 5.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting in support of Manoranjan Kalia, the BJP candidate from Jalandhar Central, here today, Thakur said, it was the gross failure of law and order where country’s Prime Minister could not reach the venue of his public function. He said, instead of owning the moral responsibility, Chief Minister Channi was boasting about it.
Thakur pointed out, the Prime Minister had come to launch development projects worth Rs 43,000 crores for Punjab from single place on a single occasion. He said, Prime Minister Modi has a special attachment with Punjab as he has worked here for a long time. He said, once the BJP led alliance government is formed in Punjab many more such projects will come.
The Himachal CM referred to long and deep rooted relationship between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. He said, Himachal treats Punjab as an elder brother. “Whenever Punjab needs us we are there and whenever we need Punjab, Punjab is there”, he said, while pointing out the two states bonding with each other will always remain strong.
Appealing people to give BJP a chance this time, he said, with BJP government at the centre, Punjab will make great strides in overall development. He said, even now Punjab was getting massive aid from the centre. He said, the Jalandhar Smart City project was funded by the central government with Rs 2000 crores and still the state failed to use it properly as “city looked like anything but smart”.
Thakur urged people to beware of those who had pushed Punjab’s youth into drugs. He said, Punjabi youth are known for valour and courage and every Indian feels proud of them. He pointed out, maximum number of soldiers who lay down their lives defending the country on the borders are Punjabis. “We will ensure that place of pride always remains there and those trying to play with that pride are banished for ever”, he said.
Appealing people to ensure the victory of Manoranjan Kalia in the elections by voting for him, he said, every vote must be cast and no vote must be allowed to go waste.
