Capt Amarinder sanctions Rs.39.50 lakh for construction of Victory Tower at Asafwala War Memorial

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh sanctioned a grant of Rs. 39.50 lakh from his discretionary quota for construction of Victory Tower at Aasafwala war Memorial in Fazilka district.

Disclosing this here today Deputy Commissioner Mr. Arvind Pal Singh Sandhu said that a memorial has been erected at Asafwala in memory of the martyrs of 1971 Indo-Pak war. The country, which won the 1971 war, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year and a number of events are taking place at the national level. The country is celebrating this year as a golden victory year.

Capt Amarinder Singh Congress PunjabIn a similar vein, the Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh approved the grant to build a victory tower in memory of the martyrs of 1971 at this war memorial in Fazilka district.

It may be recalled here that the Indian Army had saved the city of Fazilka by sacrificing its lives to thwart an attack by Pakistan in the 1971 war. That is why these martyrs are also called the ‘saviours of Fazilka’.

In memory of these martyrs a memorial was erected near the international border where the last rites of these martyred soldiers were performed. Every year a ceremony is held at this place by the Indian Army and the people of Fazilka to pay homage to these martyrs.

Now, on the 50th anniversary of the country’s victory, a victory tower will be erected at this place which will continue to pass on the story of bravery and sacrifice of our army to our future generations.
