British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett visits LPU

Jalandhar, June 15, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
British Deputy High Commissioner (Chandigarh) Ms Caroline Rowett visited Lovely Professional University (LPU), where she was greeted by Vice President of the university Dr Aman Mittal. Along with holding important talks with the university authorities, Ms Rowett also interacted with United Kingdom’s 16 students from the University of Greenwich studying at LPU for a month-long programme under the ‘Turing’ scheme, in collaboration with LPU.

On meeting the esteemed visitor, LPU Chancellor Dr Ashok Mittal apprised her about the continuous innovative affairs and achievements going at the university. Chancellor Dr Mittal shared about his contentment in various processes going with the global endeavour ‘Turing’ at the campus, where LPU faculty members are determined to impart the best of India to young UK students. Dr Mittal also expressed to see a large number of students from developed countries like the UK, in near future, to imbibe the true spirit of India at LPU.

While interacting with UK students, Ms Rowett applauded the study environment and related infrastructure at LPU campus. She also anticipated that the UK students must be learning the required lessons as per the needs of the Turing scheme implemented at LPU.

The Turing Scheme of the UK is a global programme for studying, working and living abroad, offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for personal and professional development of students. It has allowed the University of Greenwich to partner with institutions outside of Europe, such as Lovely Professional University, to deliver funded, short-term student mobility programmes.

LPU is amongst the first Indian institutes to receive students at its campus under this prestigious scheme. The students from the UK will be at the LPU campus for 30 days to imbibe the best of Indian culture, civilization, economy, fairs, fests, traditions and more. The purpose here is to provide students with the chance to develop new skills, gain vital international experience, boost their employability, and gain a better understanding of other cultures.

Ms Caroline Rowett represents the UK in four Indian states of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. She is a career diplomat with many decades of years’ experience- both overseas and in her country. Her previous postings include France, Indonesia. At LPU, she was accompanied by Deputy Head of the British High Commission (Chandigarh) Amandeep Grewal; and, Senior Sector Manager Agriculture, Agri-Tech, Food, Drink, and Head of Trade Jasdeep Jassal.
