Senior Congress leader and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today said that both the Prime Minister and the union Finance Minister today failed Punjab badly as both disappointed the state and its people.
In a statement issued here today, Ashu noted that it was an eventful day today with the Prime Minister visiting Punjab to attend the celebrations of the birth anniversary of Guru Ravidas and the union Finance Minister presenting the union budget.
He also said that Prime Minister Modi was more on a political than religious visit to Punjab.
“Neither Prime Minister offered us anything, nor the Finance Minister provided anything in the budget”, he pointed out, while adding, the budget presented by the union finance minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman has been quite disappointing for the nation as a whole and Punjab in particular.
“From the budget speech of the union Finance Minister, it looks like Punjab and Punjabis do not exist at all for them”, he rued while adding, “the budget lacks focus on agriculture and industry, the mainstay of Punjab’s economy’. Interestingly, he noted, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also in Punjab today promising moon, without giving anything to the Punjabis, his Finance Minister also had nothing to offer to the state.
“This shows how serious and sincere the BJP government at the centre is towards Punjab”, he remarked.
