Chandigarh, February 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A bomb threat email sent to key government and judicial establishments in Chandigarh on Thursday triggered panic and prompted a massive security response across the city.
Authorities immediately launched extensive search operations at multiple high-security locations, including the Punjab Mini Secretariat, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and the Civil Secretariat in Sector 1.
According to Chandigarh Police, the threat emails were received earlier in the day, leading to the swift deployment of police teams, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, fire brigade personnel, and emergency medical services at the affected premises.
Massive Security Sweep Conducted
Security agencies carried out thorough anti-sabotage checks at the targeted locations. Officials confirmed that despite extensive searches, no explosives or suspicious objects were found.
As a precautionary measure, security has been tightened in and around government buildings, and access to sensitive areas is being closely monitored.
Investigation Underway
Police have initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the threatening emails and identify those responsible. Cybercrime teams are analysing technical details, including email sources and digital footprints, to determine whether the threats were genuine or part of a hoax.
The Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat, located in Sector 1, Chandigarh, is considered a highly sensitive administrative hub housing key government offices, making the threat a serious security concern.
Pattern of Similar Threats in Recent Weeks
Officials noted that this incident follows a series of similar bomb threat emails received in recent weeks at educational institutions and government buildings across Chandigarh, Punjab, and neighbouring Haryana. All previous threats were later confirmed to be hoaxes after detailed security verification.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain calm and assured that necessary measures are in place to ensure safety and maintain public order.
Further investigation is ongoing.
