Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill on Sunday visited Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal to enquire about his health and wish him a speedy recovery.
Shergill was accompanied by Punjab BJP Vice-President Tajinder Singh Bittu during the visit.
Sukhbir Badal is recovering from injuries sustained after he was allegedly attacked with a kirpan by a Nihang Sikh at a gurdwara in Maharashtra’s Nanded three days ago. He received medical treatment following the incident.
According to information shared by his wife and Lok Sabha MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, the SAD president suffered severe injuries to his right arm and required at least 150 stitches on each side. She has also written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The BJP leaders expressed concern over Badal’s health and conveyed their wishes for his early recovery. Sources said the interaction focused on his well-being and that no political discussions took place during the meeting.
The visit comes against the backdrop of the longstanding political relationship between the BJP and SAD, which have shared an alliance in Punjab but have also experienced periods of strained ties.
Badal, son of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, remains a prominent figure in state politics and heads the SAD.
Shergill’s visit, along with the presence of Punjab BJP leader Tajinder Singh Bittu, reflected the BJP’s gesture of solidarity with the Akali Dal chief during his recovery.
Political leaders and well-wishers from across Punjab have expressed concern over the attack and wished Badal a speedy recovery. Further updates on his medical condition are awaited.
