The Nagar kirtan (Religious Procession) which began from Nankana Sahib (Pakistan) on August 1, 2019, commemorating 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, should conclusively terminate at Kartarpur Sahib, passing through the newly opened Kartarpur Sahib corridor.
This was suggested today by former Punjab Deputy Speaker and senior SAD Taksali leader Bir Devinder Singh.
In a press release issued here today, the former Deputy Speaker said, “There is absolutely no logic to conclude all programs and terminate the Nagar Kirtan at Sultanpur Lodhi as resolved by the SGPC. The half-baked idealistic choices of SGPC necessitate a thorough review of the complete format of the itinerary of all the commemorative functions connected to 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.”
It’s preposterous that the SGPC is committing a monumental blunder by not taking the Nagar Kirtan to Kartarpur Sahib, which is an ideal destination for the termination of the Nagar Kirtan, he said.
Bir Devinder Singh said, termination of the Nagar Kirtan at Sultanpur Lodhi certainly does not make any sense. It does not validate the philosophical ethos and the divine messages as enunciated by Guru Nanak Dev during his cosmic travels. Guru Nanak has practically consolidated and meditatively envisioned his teachings and philosophy in the last 20 years of his life at Kartarpur Sahib.
Putting his point of view, the former Deputy Speaker said, the followers of Guru Nanak, world over, have been praying to have unhindered glimpses ‘Darshan’ of all the holy places blessed by Sikh Gurus that remained with Pakistan after the partition of India.
“Now on the 550th Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak dev Ji, we are blessed to have the chance to re-experience those blessed moments in our lives, then why not to celebrate those movements, strictly in accordance to the ethos of Guru Nanak Dev,” he said.
Therefore, he said, it would be only appropriate to have the concluding function at Kartarpur Sahib.and the route of the Nagar Kirtan be redefined and extended up to Kartarpur Sahib, and it should terminate at a destination where Guru Nanak disseminated his last message to the humanity.
