Congress Candidate Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon has won the Barnala Bye-Election defeating his nearest rival and AAP candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal by a margin of 2147 votes.
Congress’ Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon got 28226 votes while AAP’s official candidate Harinder Singh Dhaliwal got 26079 votes. Gurdeep Singh Bath, who contested the election as an AAP rebel, got 17937 votes while the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar candidate led by Simranjit Singh Mann and Mann’s grandson Govind Singh Sandhu got only 7896 votes.
The Barnala assembly seat fell vacant after Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer was elected as an MP and AAP fielded Harinder Singh Dhaliwal as its candidate, while another party leader Gurdeep Singh Bath entered the fray as an independent candidate and bagged a large number of votes, causing the defeat of the official AAP candidate.
