Bandhi Chhor Diwas, meaning “Day of Liberation,” honors the historic release of Guru Hargobind Sahib from Gwalior Fort in 1619, along with 52 unjustly imprisoned Hindu Kings. Guru Sahib refused freedom for himself alone, insisting that all political prisoners be released at the same time.
This act of moral courage transformed the day into a living symbol of shared justice and fearless advocacy – values that continue to guide Sikh communities and humanitarian efforts worldwide.
