ASSOCHAM urges Punjab Govt. to find a sustainable solution to power crisis

Chandigarh, May 2, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
ASSOCHAM, the 102 years old national industry chamber of the nation has joined the ongoing expressions of serious concerns over power cuts, impacting the large and MSME industries of the state. The regional and the state leaders have come forward to speak out their views on the matter that had troubled the industrial operations last year as well.

It is pertinent to note that there have been regular power cuts in many areas of the state and industrial units that are consuming more than 2MW of power have been directed for shutting down as consumption has increased due to temperature.

“We have just started recovering from the 2 long years of pandemic and periodic lockdowns during the COVID19 peak, and suffered the erratic power cuts even last year. ASSOCHAM would like to see quick solutions to these long-pending matters for sustainable growth of the industry in the state. While large industries have been asked to curtail down their power consumption, more than 60% of small industries have suffered major losses.” Shared Mr Kulwin Seehra, Co-Chair, ASSOCHAM North Region Council & Executive Director GNA Axles.

Adding further, Mr Vijay Garg, Chair, ASSOCHAM Punjab Development Council & Managing Director, Viva Group stated “We are keen to work as equal partners with the newly formed government on various matters of industrial growth, job creation, and overall industrial development and would seek an urgent solution to the power crisis.

We believe in an inclusive decision-making process involving all key stakeholders. The industry provides livelihood to several families and contributes immensely to the development of the state. If we continue to suffer such setbacks every year, it will be difficult for us to achieve the growth objectives.”

“Punjab has a very strong potential to drive the economic growth of the country. We request the Chief Minister and his entire team to take control of the situation and provide a quick fix.

The industry was impacted last year as well due to non-availability of power. We are very hopeful that the progressive government of Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Sh Bhagwant Mann, will soon find a permanent solution to this long-pending concern of the industry. ” Added Mr Iqbal Cheema, Co-Chair, ASSOCHAM Punjab Development Council & Executive Director, Punjab Film City.
