In a major haul, the Jalandhar (Rural) Police today recovered 60,000 milliliters of lahan stored along with the river banks of river Satluj at a village near Shahkot to prepare illicit liquor.
Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that the Police had got a tip off that amidst curfew some smugglers were active along with the banks of river Saluj for preparing the illicit liquor.
He said that acting on the tip off a Police party led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. Piara Singh and Station House Officer Shahkot Mr. Surinder Kumar raided the area on the banks of Satluj river. Mr. Mahal said that during the search around Baupur village the Police party, accompanied by Excise Inspector, recovered 60,000 millititers of the lahan stored in tarpaulins.
The Senior Superintendent of Police said that this lahan would have been used to prepare illicit liquor to be sold in the area. He said that the Police party has seized the lahan and further investigation into the matter was being done.
Mr. Mahal said that a FIR under section 61-1-14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the unidentified persons at the Shahkot Police station and the perpetrators would be put behind the bars soon.
The Senior Superintendent of Police further said that the Jalandhar (Rural) Police has further intensified the drive against violators and severest of sever action would be taken against anyone found flouting the norms.
Mr. Mahal said that no one would be allowed to take law in their hands adding that the Police has already steeped up vigil in all the areas under its jurisdiction. He appealed the people to stay safe by ensuring self home quarantine and social distancing in proper manner.
