Art Created with Eyes Closed Using Grass: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Impressed by Grass Artist Abhishek Chouhan’s Skill

3 February, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A 200-year-old art form, an integral part of vibrant Punjab, captivated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was presented with an artwork of the national bird, the peacock, made from blades of grass. The artwork, created with closed eyes, left a lasting impression on him.

-A few days ago, during an event, Abhishek Kumar Chouhan, the country’s only great grass artist from Rajpura, met the Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Bhagwant Singh Mann.

On this occasion, the artist presented the Chief Minister with a special artwork of India’s national bird, the peacock, crafted entirely from natural grass blades and created with his eyes closed. He also presented the Chief Minister with an artwork of ‘Ik Onkar’ made from grass. This artwork is inspired by the original form of ‘Ik Onkar Sahib’, which is enshrined at Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi.

The grass artist created this piece by bending approximately 1,100 blades of grass 11,000 times over 10 hours, with his eyes closed, while chanting the Mool Mantra Sahib. When the Chief Minister was informed that this entire artistic process is performed without sight, relying solely on meditation, practice, and deep concentration, he was deeply impressed by this unique skill.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann praised the artist’s extraordinary artistic dedication, stating that such natural and spiritual art gives a new identity to Punjab’s cultural heritage. He also expressed his desire to witness the artist’s skill of creating art with eyes closed live, which is a special honour for the artist.

The officials and dignitaries present on the occasion also appreciated the intricacy, patience, and originality of the grass art. This meeting became a memorable confluence of art, nature, and sensitive leadership.

Abhishek Kumar Chouhan, the country’s only artist of this kind, holds a special place not only in Punjab but across the nation for his unique and spiritually inspired grass art. He is the only grass artist in India who creates artworks and sculptures from natural grass blades with his eyes closed.

His unique art is a remarkable blend of meditation and tradition. In 2019, when the Punjab Government honoured him with the State Award, he was officially declared the only artist in the country who creates artworks from grass with his eyes closed.
