Arrested alongside Nodeep kaur, Khattar govt should immediately release activist Shiv Kumar: Sanjeev Kaur Manuke

Chandigarh, February 27, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Reacting to the bail granted by the honourable High Court to labour activist Nodeep Kaur of Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed it a partial victory of those who raised their voice for the truth and the rights.

In a statement, senior leader of the party and Deputy Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Sarvjeet Kaur Manuke said that today, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi government was trying to deprive the people of their constitutional rights in a dictatorial manner; the judiciary was playing its due role of impartiality in defending the Constitution.

She said that it was the personal opinion of the people to disagree or agree with the decisions of the Modi-led central government but the dictatorial Modi government was illegally imprisoning the dissidents.

Manuke said that Nodeep Kaur, a labour activist who had been fighting for the rights of the labourers for a long time and had made them aware of their rights, was imprisoned for suppressing her voice, but the court granted her bail and upheld her right to speak.

She said that according to Nodeep Kaur, Dalit activist Shiv Kumar, who was arrested alongside her, was tortured inhumanely by the police. Taking a dig at the BJP led government in Haryana and at the centre, Manuke said that the BJP government had been using force to suppress any sort of protest and voice of the activists.

She said that the Modi government at the centre and Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana had been trying all sorts of tricks to crush the farmers’ movement and when they did not succeed, wanted to suppress those who raised their voice in favour of the farmers.

“In the current Modi regime, there is no space for protest, no voices are heard and all voices are just suppressed,” she added. Manuke further demanded from the Centre and the Haryana government to dismiss the false cases registered against the farmers or the leaders who were helping them and immediately release them from the jails.

Slamming Captain Amarinder for failing on every front, the AAP leader said that being the Chief Minister of the state, Captain had failed in protecting its citizens. Manuke said that Captain had neither taken any initiative nor made efforts to provide any help to them.

She said that today the people of Punjab were out on streets protesting for their rights and survival but when they were being suppressed; Captain Amarinder was doing nothing to intervene.

Accusing the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh of being indifferent to the people of his own state, Manuke said that Delhi Police, which had been under the control of the Centre for a long time and Khattar Police of Haryana, were filing false cases against the people of Punjab.

“Captain Amarinder did not dare to utter a single word against the BJP government. As the head of state, Captain should come out of his royal farm house and stand with the people,” she added.

She said that Captain Amarinder should take up these issues with PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar to raise the voice of the people of Punjab and demand immediate dismissal of the false charges against them.
