Anti-Encroachment Drive Continues in Naya Gaon; Illegal Structures Removed from Kansal Catchment Area

SAS Nagar, February 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

In continuation of the ongoing anti-encroachment drive initiated on the directions of the District Administration and in compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble High Court, the Municipal Council (MC) Naya Gaon carried out enforcement action on the second day (yesterday) against unauthorised constructions in the Naya Gaon area, with particular focus on the Kansal catchment area of Sukhna Lake.

The second-day operation was conducted under the supervision of MC Naya Gaon officials, with active participation of the EO, AME, Sanitary Inspector, General Inspector, and field staff. Adequate police force was deployed to maintain law and order and to ensure the smooth and peaceful execution of the drive. The SHO, Naya Gaon, along with the police personnel, remained present on site to provide necessary security and support.

During the drive, encroachments and illegal structures raised in violation of the Hon’ble High Court’s directions were removed from ecologically sensitive and restricted areas. These areas fall within the Kansal catchment and floodplain zones, which are critical for maintaining natural drainage channels and protecting the ecological health of Sukhna Lake.

Despite prior notices, warnings, and ample opportunity for voluntary removal, several encroachments continued to exist, necessitating coercive action by the authorities strictly as per law. Such unauthorised constructions impede the natural flow of rainwater, aggravate flood risks, and pose serious environmental concerns.

The removal of encroachments on the second day was carried out in a systematic, lawful, and peaceful manner.

The District Administration and MC Naya Gaon have reiterated that the anti-encroachment drive will continue and that no unauthorised construction will be tolerated in the Kansal catchment area, along Patiala Ki Rao, or in any other protected or regulated zones. Any further violations of the Hon’ble High Court’s orders will attract strict legal action, including demolition and penal proceedings.

Residents and property owners are once again advised to comply strictly with approved building plans, land-use regulations, and court directions.
Executive Officer added that if any body try to construct any unauthorised building or structure in restricted area, strict action will be taken as per law.

The administration remains committed to safeguarding the Sukhna Lake catchment area, preserving natural water bodies and drainage systems, and ensuring strict enforcement of environmental and municipal laws in the larger public interest.
