Senior Congress leader and former Punjab minister Anil Joshi has issued a legal notice to Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, accusing her of making public remarks that he says have harmed his credibility and reputation in political and social circles.
Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a former MLA and the wife of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, had recently claimed that Joshi, who earlier left the BJP to join the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), had allegedly paid a large sum of money to secure a position in the Congress. She also alleged that he was now dissatisfied in the party and planning a return to the Akali Dal.
Rejecting these allegations as baseless and damaging, Joshi sent a formal notice on Wednesday demanding that Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu issue a public apology, withdraw her statements, and refrain from repeating what he describes as completely unfounded insinuations.
This development comes a day after senior Congress leader and Rajasthan Congress incharge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also served a legal notice to Dr. Sidhu over separate remarks made by her.
Joshi, who won the Amritsar North Assembly seat twice in 2007 and 2012 on a BJP ticket and later served as a cabinet minister in the SAD-BJP government led by the late Parkash Singh Badal, said Dr. Sidhu’s statements portray him as a politician involved in unethical conduct, including buying party memberships and shifting allegiances for personal gain.
He described the allegations as false, fabricated, and lacking any factual basis.
The notice demands that Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu immediately cease making such statements and issue an unconditional apology. Failing this, Joshi has warned of initiating appropriate legal proceedings.
