A delegation led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) general secretary Jathedar Karnail Singh Panjoli today handed over a memorandum of demand in the name of senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ambala, demanding action against accused who committed crime of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Punjabi Gurdwara Sahib in Babyal village of Ambala district on July 20, 2022.
The SGPC demanded that the accused people should be arrested immediately and they be given strict punishment.
Karnail Singh Panjoli said there is great reverence towards Guru Granth Sahib among Sikhs and people of every religion, but this incident of sacrilege has seriously hurt the sentiments of Sikh Sangat (community).
“The accused of this sacrilege crime should be spared in any situation. After tracing the accused besides taking action against them under Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code, they should be prosecuted under UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act). It is sad that so far the accused have not been identified, which is causing a sense of protest among the Sangat”, said Karnail Singh Panjoli.
On the occasion of handing over the memorandum, those present with Karnail Singh Panjoli included SGPC members S. Harpal Singh, S. Jagsir Singh, S. Jasmer Singh, Akali leaders S. Sukhdev Singh, S. Gurdeep Singh, S. Bhupal Singh, S. Charanjit Singh, swami Ramesh Kumar, S. Hakam Singh, S. Surinder Singh, S. Ranvir Singh, and S. Ravinder Singh.
