Adopt a village, examine BP, Sugar and Weight of each resident: Dr. Balbir Singh exhorts nurses

Aiming to make Punjab a healthy state as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Medical Education & Research Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Tuesday gave a clarion call to the Nursing students to adopt one village and examine Blood Pressure (BP), Sugar and Weight of each person living in the village to pave a way for creating hale and hearty Punjab.

“Apart from this, also educate them (people) to partake only nutritious food and exhort them to spend one hour in a day on exercise, whether it’s a walk or yoga, and ask them to keep smiling,” he said, while ensuring them full support and facilities from his side. “If we could be able to educate people about these three-four things, they won’t suffer any kind of disease or obesity ever,” he added.

Dr Balbir Singh was addressing a one-day workshop on “Administrative skills & latest trends in Nursing Education” organised by the Punjab Nurses Registration Council (PNRC) at Municipal Bhawan here. Indian Nursing Council (INC) President Dr T Dilip Kumar, Secretary Dr Saravjeet Kaur and Joint Secretary KS Bharti also attended the workshop.

Terming Nursing as more a passion than profession, Dr Balbir Singh also emphasised the role of nurses in implementing Health Policies & motivated all the principals to educate the students according to the standards of clinical training.

He also exhorted Principals and teachers at the Nursing Institutions to impart world-class education to the nursing students, so that they could feel enthusiastic and motivated to do this job compassionately.

INC President Dr T Dilip Kumar emphasized nursing education and new innovation in nursing education like simulation based teaching. Registrar PNRC Dr Puneet Girdhar gave a brief account of activities of PNRC and their initiative to improve standards of nursing education in Punjab.

The speakers also highlighted the need for improvement of nursing education in order to improve the nursing care hospitals.

Meanwhile, more than two hundred nursing principals from different schools and nursing colleges attended this workshop.
