Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Punjab, today briefed the media about the comprehensive security and traffic arrangements put in place by the Punjab Police for tomorrow’s India versus South Africa T20 cricket match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.
He informed that keeping in view the large turnout of spectators as against the stadium’s seating capacity of around 35,000, foolproof security and traffic management arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
Around 3,000 police personnel, led by one Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and two Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs), along with 80 SPs, DSPs and other Gazetted ranks of the Punjab Police, will be deployed for security and crowd management.
DIG Rupnagar Range, Sh. Nanak Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar, Sh. Harmandeep Singh Hans, will closely supervise the security and traffic arrangements, he added.
To facilitate smooth vehicular movement and avoid congestion, the following traffic diversions and routes have been advised for spectators visiting the stadium:
1. From Dakshin Marg
Turn left from the Mullanpur–Chandigarh Barrier towards the Baddi–Kurali Road. Near the Omaxe Ship Building, turn left and take PR-7 (Airport Road). From Airport Road, turn left towards Stadium Road.
Alternatively, continue on the Baddi–Kurali Road and near Eco City-1 Township, turn left and reach Stadium Road via PR-6 Road.
2. From Airport Road
If coming from the Baddi/Kurali side, drive straight on PR-7 Road and turn right towards Stadium Road.
If coming from the Kurali side, also turn right towards Stadium Road.
3. From PGI Madhya Marg
Drive straight towards the Baddi–Kurali Road and turn left to get onto PR-7 (Airport Road). From there, turn left towards Stadium Road.
Alternatively, turn left from the Mullanpur–Chandigarh Barrier towards Kurali and near Eco City-1 Township, turn left and reach Stadium Road via PR-6 Road.
The Special DGP appealed to the public to follow traffic advisories, cooperate with the police and arrive well in time to avoid inconvenience. He reiterated that all necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and smooth movement of spectators.
