Senior legislature of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema has said that Captain Amarinder Singh, who had taken a large number of people of the state for a ride during the 2017 elections with his “Ghar Ghar Naukri’ rant had rendered thousands of truck, tempo and trawla operators in the state jobless.
In a statement issued from party headquarters here on Wednesday, Cheema said that the dictatorial decisions of the dispensation had rendered thousands of truck operators in the state jobless, saying the arbitrary orders had deprived lakhs of families of their regular source of income, forcing that more than thirty thousands were forced to dispose off their trucks to junk dealers.
Cheema said that the figures may be on the higher side than culled by Punjab Truck Operator Union, which was worrying, he said.
The AAP leader said that tall order had affected only truck operators, but also tempo union, canter union, trawla union, tractors union, mini bus operators, who continue to come to him in his capacity as LoP with their problems but regretted that the government in the saddle had been sleeping over the issue, saying AAP would take up their issues in the upcoming Assembly session.
Cheema alleged that the Captain Amarinder Singh Government has, instead of demolishing the powerful transport mafia, had given more teeth to it, which he said was worrying. He said that the decision had directly or indirectly impacted everyone in the state.
Cheema demanded that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh should hold talks with truck operators and other transporters and resolve their issues sooner than later lest they should be forced to follow the path the peasants of the state had been forced to adopt, Cheema cautioned.
