Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government would continue to work in the public interest despite opposition, asserting that its focus remained on employment, healthcare, education and welfare.
Addressing a gathering at the ‘Ek Sham Bhagwan Shiv Ke Naam’ programme in Rajpura, Mann said his responsibility was to ensure employment for every household, treatment for every elderly person and quality education for every child.
He also said women who had not received financial assistance under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojana should complete the required formality and would receive payments from July.
Mann said Punjab’s tradition of communal harmony must be preserved, describing the state as a place where people participate in each other’s religious and cultural celebrations.
“Punjab is a bouquet in which every colour of flower is there and everyone prospers on this sacred land. Our land is so fertile that every seed can grow here, but the seed of hatred can never grow because our unity is very strong,” he said.
He highlighted the Mukh Mantri Tirath Yatra Yojana, saying its scope had been expanded to include Haridwar, Rishikesh, Salasar Dham and Khatu Shyam Ji, besides destinations such as Sri Harmandir Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib. Free transport, boarding and lodging are provided under the scheme, he said.
On the women’s welfare scheme, Mann said women had started receiving ₹1,000 per month from July 1, while women belonging to Scheduled Castes were entitled to ₹1,500. He claimed around 75 lakh women had already begun receiving the assistance.
The Chief Minister also cited the closure of 19 toll plazas, claiming that it had resulted in daily savings of around ₹70 lakh for commuters. He said more than 70,000 government jobs had been provided transparently, 90 per cent of households were receiving free power, farmers were getting daytime electricity and around 44,000 km of roads were being constructed.
On healthcare, Mann described the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana as a major initiative, saying it provides cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh annually to every resident family in Punjab. He said lakhs of people had already benefited from the scheme.
Mann also accused opposition parties of planning to discontinue welfare initiatives if voted to power and said his government would continue pursuing its public-oriented agenda.
