AAP for action against officials, politicians for giving pensions to ‘ineligible’ persons: Aman Arora

Chandigarh, July 21, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, disenchanted at the decision of the Capt. Amarinder Singh government to recover Rs.162.35 lakh from 70,137 ‘ineligible’ old age pensioners in the state, has demanded that the erring officials and politicians responsible for sanctioning pension to ‘unauthorised’ persons should be duly investigated and stringent action be taken against them.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Tuesday, state core committee chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram and senior leader and MLA Aman Arora said such decisions were untimely and absurd amid the Corona epidemic, saying that while the Arvind Kejriwal govt in Delhi was giving a pension of Rs 5,000 per month each eligible pensioner as a against Rs 2,500 per month due to the Corona epidemic, the Captain govt, which had promised to raise the pension from Rs 500 to Rs 2,500 was recovering from the current pension of Rs. 750 per month from ‘ineligible’ pensioners in the state.

Aman Arora said: “The government officials and politicians who are behind depriving the genuine and deserving persons of their rights by giving pensions to the ‘ineligible’ persons should be taken to task and amount be recovered from them”

Principal Budhram on the occasion said: “We are against giving benefits of the government schemes to ‘ineligible’ beneficiaries by politicising the popular schemes, accusing both the Badals and Captain of the ‘botch-up’ of the popular schemes depriving the ‘genuine’ beneficiaries of the benefits”.
