Seerat Kaur Gill, Dean (Faculty) at Adesh Institute of Technology, Gharuan presented a research paper carved out of her research during 79th Annual Meeting of prestigious Academy of Management concluded at Boston, Massachusetts, USA concluded on 13th August 2019.
This year’s programme theme was Understanding the Inclusive Organization, and the programme included global trends such as population growth, increased migration, and prolonged life expectancies have produced compositional changes in workforces that make the creation of inclusive organizations important for engaging all employees.
The title of her presentation was “Developing Inclusive Learning Environment at Management Education Institutions”. She discussed in detail the concept of inclusive education, including importance, challenges and measures to implement inclusive education in Institutions providing Management Education in developing nations like India.
Inclusive learning (IL) is a recent concept towards educating the students with disability and learning difficulties with that of normal ones under the same roof. It brings all students together in one classroom and community, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses in any area, and seeks to maximize the potential of all students.
It is one of the most effective ways to promote an inclusive and tolerant society. The concept assumes greater importance in India since about 80% population lives in rural areas many of whom are marginalised by poverty, gender, disability, and caste, and without provision for special Institutions.
She pointed out effective strategies for achieving the goal of inclusive education and gave specific recommendations directed to the central and state governments, communities, and societies to manage inclusive learning.
Seerat Gill is noted researcher and educationist renowned for her contribution in development of inclusive education, research, and service. She is a noted columnist for national newspapers like The Hindu, The Tribune and Hindustan Times .
