Taking a review meeting of District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), held here today, Chairman Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi (Member, Lok Sabha, Patiala Parliamentary Constituency) and Co-Chairman Malvinder Singh Kang (Member, Lok Sabha, Sri Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary Constituency) appealed to the officials to use the funds coming for the needy and weaker sections with honesty and transparency.
While chairing a meeting to review MP Local Area Funds and Central schemes in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district here today, Dr Gandhi and Mr Kang emphasized that our approach should be positive and humane to ensure maximum reach of government welfare schemes to the needy and deserving people.
Both MPs said that for the welfare of the needy and weaker sections, several schemes have been implemented at State and Central level like MGNREGA, Ayushman Bharat Sehat Bima Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Yojana, free wheat under National Food Security Act, Supplimentary Nutritional Programme for Pregnant and lactating mothers, new born children and adolescent girls through Anganwadi centers, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandna Yojna vaccination,
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and POSHAN Abhiyan and Immunisation and other facilities related to health department, Mid day meal, upgradation of school infrastructure etc., Swachh Bharat Mission, PM SVAnidhi, AMRUT yojna etc. some of which have also State share as a matching grant.
They said that the objective of this meeting is not just to review the progress of figures but also to review the welfare of these needy people at the ground level, for which we all need to do ‘team work’.
Stressing on the awareness campaign against the cancer disease spreading in Punjab, Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi said that we should educate people for its prevention by highlighting 9 important points in this regard at educational institutions, health institutions and public places.
He said that today there are many examples in our society, of people surviving from cancer. He also stressed on forming clusters of villages and building small marriage palaces based on community center model to provide space for marriages and other functions at affordable rates, for which he also expressed his willingness to give grants from the MP Land Fund.
MP Malvinder Singh Kang while referring to the Khijrabad to Chatauli road, stressed on identifying more such roads in the district and bringing them under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana or other central assistance road schemes to get maximum benefit of central funds.
On enquiring about the resolution of drinking water scarcity in the village Masoul, Executive Engineer of Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Ramandeep Singh apprised the MP that a water supply scheme has already been commissioned for the people of the village and water supply will start in a day or two.
During the meeting, it was also informed that under AMRUT Yojana, water treatment plants are being set up in Kharar and Kurali, in which the Central and Punjab governments will contribute equally. This will pave the way for providing canal water to both cities.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain, while presenting the vote of thanks, assured both the MPs that every penny of the Central grant and MP Local Area Development funds will be ensured to benefit the eligible and needy people in the district.
In the meeting, both the MPs appreciated the proposal of District Planning Committee Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur to build a small marriage palace over a cluster of some villages and assured her to give their full contribution.
