Mohali ready to host first ‘SARAS Mela’ from Oct 18: DC Aashika Jain

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar Administration is all set to host its first ever ‘Saras Mela’ which is known for its many a distinction, in the country and abroad for the first time at Mohali’s Sector 88 (behind Manav Mangal Smart School) scheduled from October 18 to 27. Over 600 Artisans with 300 stalls and artists from other states to exhibit their skills and culture during the SARAS Mela.

Disclosing this while reviewing the ongoing arrangements at Mela site, the Deputy Commissioner Mrs Aashika Jain said that our district has got the opportunity for the first time since its inception from 2006, to host this fair which is held in big cities of the country. The Deputy Commissioner said that the fair will have many artists, artisans, traders and skilled people from many states, while thousands of people will visit for shopping and entertainment every day.

The Deputy Commissioner said that on the inaugural evening of 18th October, Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa, Shivjot on 19th October, Punjabi singers Pari Pandher, Basant Kur, Savitaj Brar on 20th October in addition to fashion show, Comedy night by Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Solanki on October 21, Lakhwinder Wadali on October 22, Bhangra and Gidha (from university teams) on October 23, Punjabi singer Joban Sandhu on October 24, various artists on October 25, Kulwinder Billa on October 27 and on the last night of the meal on October 27, Gippy Grewal will have performance.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the committees constituted to carry out the arrangements of this ‘Saras Mela’ in a smooth manner and on time.

DC Jain said that students coming to the Saras Mela in school uniform will get free entry, while an entry ticket of Rs 20 has been kept for general public.

Apart from this, every day folk artist Bean Jogi, Dancer, Nagara, puppet dance, Bazigar, Kachi Ghodi etc. will entertain the people by roaming around the fair.

During the fair, theme-based programs will be conducted every day to make people aware of social concerns and evils and opportunities will also be given to emerging artists from schools and colleges.

She said that as a unique feature of the fair, artists from the Northern Zone Cultural Centre will entertain the people with folk dances from different states, including Pihu of Assam, Kalbelia of Rajasthan, Holi and Mayur dances of Barsana of UP, various dances of Haryana and Punjab.

Besides others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Viraj S Tidke, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Sonam Chaudhary, SDM Mohali Damandeep Kaur, SDM Kharar Gurmander Singh, Chief Engineer Municipal Corporation Mohali Naresh Batta and Heads of various departments were present.
