District & Sessions Judge, Rupnagar, Ms. Ramesh Kumari on 19.9.2024 sentenced Rahul Kumar son of Madan Lal resident of Choi Bazar near Latawa Sweet Shop, Sri Anandpur Sahib, District Rupnagar to undergo imprisonment of 20 years in a rape case committed on 19 years mentally challenged girl.
The FIR was registered in this case on 15.9.2022 at Police Station Sri Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar for commission of offences under Section 366, 376-D, 376(2)(j)(i), 506 IPC. The case was registered on the statement of brother of victim.
As per the prosecution case, the sister of the complainant who is mentally challenged girl and IQ 50% less-thannormal person was working as a helper in some shop. On 6.9.2022, his sister suffered acute stomach pain and on medical checkup, it was found that girl was 6 months pregnant.
Thereafter, the girl disclosed that accused Rahul Kumar alongwith juvenile being tried separately by Juvenile Justice Board, were working at some Confectionery near to the shop where she was working.
They took her forcibly in the godown near shop at Sri Anandpur Sahib several times where they committed rape upon her and they threatened to kill her in case she disclosed anything.
Today, the court of Sessions Judge, Rupnagar, convicted and sentenced accused Rahul Kumar for rigorous imprisonment for 7 years and fined Rs.5000/- under Section 366 IPC, rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and fined Rs.50000/- under Section 376-D IPC, rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and fined Rs.50000/-under Section 376 (2)(j)(i)(n) IPC and rigorous imprisonment for 2 years and fined Rs.3000/-under Section 506 IPC. All sentences were directed to run concurrently. 90% fine imposed upon the convict on its realization, was further directed to be paid as compensation to the victim.
