Chandigarh, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday assured a delegation of the Dharam Yudh Morcha, led by Gurpreet Singh Khalsa, that the state government would ensure a swift, transparent and in-depth investigation into the Sri Anandpur Sahib sexual assault case, with an SIT to be constituted immediately.

The assurance came amid repeated representations by Sikh institutions seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the case involving SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla.

During the meeting, the delegation raised concerns over the case and sought prompt action. Mann said the investigation would be conducted in a fair and time-bound manner and that no person, regardless of position or influence, would be allowed to interfere with the course of justice.

“The law will take its course and no person, irrespective of position or influence, will be allowed to interfere with the process of justice,” Mann said.

He added that the SIT would examine all relevant aspects of the case thoroughly and help expedite the investigation.

Assuring strict action, the Chief Minister said anyone found guilty after completion of the investigation would face action in accordance with law.

Expressing concern over the incident, Mann said, “It is extremely unfortunate that this heinous crime against humanity, especially against a woman, has taken place at the sacred land of Sri Anandpur Sahib.”

He said those found responsible would not be shown leniency and that exemplary punishment would be ensured within the framework of law to serve as a deterrent.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the state government’s commitment to holding the long-pending Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections without unnecessary delay.

“There should be no unnecessary delay in holding the SGPC elections. All legitimate steps within the government’s jurisdiction will be pursued in this regard,” he said.

Mann said issues concerning Sikh institutions and the wider Sikh community deserved to be addressed with sensitivity and seriousness while following constitutional and legal processes.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the meeting also covered important issues concerning the Sikh Panth. He reiterated that the government was committed to finding prompt and appropriate solutions to such issues.

He said the government would continue to pursue timely action and lawful processes while respecting the historic legacy and institutions of the Sikh Panth.
