Chandigarh, October 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a Sub Divisional Engineer (SDE) of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Kapurthala, for allegedly accepting Rs 30,000 as the first instalment of a Rs 1.25 lakh bribe.

According to a VB spokesperson, accused SDE Agamjot Singh was arrested red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe from a Sub-Divisional Clerk posted at Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Sub-Division No. 2, Kapurthala. The tainted currency was recovered in the presence of two official witnesses.

The complaint was filed after the complainant was transferred by Agamjot Singh on October 5 to the Water Supply Scheme at Chakkoki village in Kapurthala district. Since the new place of posting was reportedly located a considerable distance from his residence, the complainant verbally requested cancellation or stoppage of the transfer.

The complainant’s colleague, Amarinder Singh, a Fitter Helper, subsequently informed him that the SDE had allegedly demanded money for stopping the transfer. Amarinder Singh contacted Agamjot Singh by phone, during which the accused allegedly demanded Rs 1.25 lakh to be paid in instalments. The conversation was reportedly recorded on Amarinder Singh’s mobile phone.

Unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, the complainant approached the VB Range Jalandhar. Acting on the complaint, the bureau laid a trap and arrested Agamjot Singh while he was allegedly accepting the first instalment of Rs 30,000.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the VB Police Station, Range Jalandhar. Further investigation is underway.
