Punjab Police conducts 628 raids, arrests 289 on Day 257 of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’

Punjab Police conducted 628 raids across the state on Sunday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, arresting 289 people and taking preventive action against 232 others, officials said.

The operation, being conducted against associates and networks linked to gangsters, also led to the arrest of eight proclaimed offenders and the recovery of eight weapons, according to the police.

With the latest arrests, the total number of people arrested since the launch of the campaign has reached 76,099.

‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ was launched by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the stated objective of making Punjab free of gangster activity. Police teams from all districts have been conducting coordinated operations in collaboration with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF).

Punjab Police reiterated that members of the public can anonymously share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.

Meanwhile, the police also continued its anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 582nd day on Sunday.

Police said 180 alleged drug smugglers were arrested during the day, while 921 grams of heroin, 405 kg of poppy husk, 1,303 intoxicant tablets and Rs 5,100 in suspected drug money were recovered.

The cumulative number of alleged drug smugglers arrested during the 582-day campaign has now reached 81,798, according to the police.

As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police said it also persuaded 13 people on Sunday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
