Chandigarh, September 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

AAP Punjab chief spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) should question Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and former Punjab Police officer Jagdish Bhola face-to-face to establish the alleged links in the drug case.

Addressing a press conference, Dhaliwal said the SIT summons to Majithia should be used to examine every aspect of the alleged drug network and ensure that no individual receives special treatment.

“Jagdish Bhola and Bikram Singh Majithia should be made to sit face-to-face and questioned so that the truth can come out. Every aspect of the drug network must be investigated and no person should be given any special treatment,” he said.

Dhaliwal alleged that the drug network expanded across Punjab during the 2007-2017 Akali-BJP government and claimed that Majithia and his associates had played a role during that period. He said anyone found responsible for bringing drugs into Punjab and contributing to drug abuse among the state’s youth should face action under the law.

He defended the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, saying the administration’s stated objective was to make the state drug-free and not to pursue political vendetta.

“The allegations of political vendetta being levelled by the Shiromani Akali Dal are completely misplaced. The objective of the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann government is not political vendetta but to make Punjab drug-free,” Dhaliwal said.

He claimed that thousands of alleged drug smugglers had been arrested as part of the government’s campaign and said investigations were being conducted through the legal process.

Dhaliwal also referred to dismissed AIG Rajjit Singh, saying that anyone found to have played a role in pushing drugs into Punjab would have to face legal consequences, irrespective of their political or official position.

Turning his criticism towards the BJP, Dhaliwal alleged that large quantities of drugs enter the country through ports in BJP-ruled Gujarat and are subsequently transported through different routes to other states, including Punjab.

“Before coming to Punjab to do politics on drugs, Union Home Minister Amit Shah should answer the people of Punjab about the drugs coming through Gujarat,” he said, questioning why the BJP did not begin its anti-drug campaign from Gujarat.

On the issue of cross-border smuggling, Dhaliwal said Punjab shares a 532-km international border with Pakistan and alleged that drones are being used to smuggle drugs and weapons into the state.

He said the Punjab government had repeatedly urged the Centre to install anti-drone systems and take stronger measures to prevent cross-border smuggling.

“The Punjab Government is doing everything within its jurisdiction to stop the drug trade, but border security is the responsibility of the Central Government. The Centre must strengthen surveillance, install anti-drone systems and take effective measures to stop the smuggling of drugs and weapons across the border,” Dhaliwal said.

Dhaliwal asserted that the state government’s anti-drug campaign would continue and that anyone found involved in the alleged trafficking of drugs into Punjab would be dealt with according to law.
