Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to six newly recruited Food Safety Officers (FSOs), aiming to strengthen food safety monitoring and enforcement across the state.
The appointments have been made in the Department of Food Safety in line with the state government’s efforts, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to reinforce the food safety mechanism.
The newly appointed officers are Anish Pal Singh, Shivali Bawa, Gurleen Kaur, Isha Rani, Priyanka and Shubham Sharma. The appointment letters were presented at the Health Minister’s office in Chandigarh.
Congratulating the recruits, Dr Balbir Singh urged them to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity and dedication, emphasising that protecting public health and ensuring access to safe food are key priorities of the Punjab government.
He said the induction of the officers would enhance the department’s field-level capacity and strengthen enforcement of food safety regulations across Punjab. Their responsibilities will include regular inspections of food establishments, systematic sampling and testing of food products, and timely action against violations of prescribed standards.
The minister said the officers would be deployed at different locations across the state according to departmental requirements and would perform their statutory duties under applicable food safety laws and regulations.
Wishing them success in their careers, Dr Balbir Singh called on the officers to remain vigilant and committed to ensuring that consumers have access to unadulterated, hygienic and standard-compliant food products.
Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul, Director Health Services Dr Hitinder Kaur, Director Health Services (Family Welfare) Dr Aditi Salaria and Joint Commissioner Food Safety Dr Amit Joshi were among the officials present at the event.
