Three prominent schools in Amritsar received bomb threats through email, prompting the authorities to initiate precautionary measures and send students back home on Wednesday.
The schools named in the threatening emails are Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Ryan International School and Sri Ram Ashram Public School.
Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School is run by Chief Khalsa Diwan, a prominent Sikh educational and religious organisation.
The threatening emails were received on Tuesday, following which the police were informed. Police teams have launched an investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the threats and trace the source of the emails.
As students began arriving at the schools on Wednesday morning, they were reportedly sent back home as a precautionary measure.
Further details regarding the exact nature of the threats and the identity of the sender were awaited. There was no immediate information about the detection of any suspicious object on the school premises.
The development comes amid heightened security arrangements in Punjab ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Jalandhar.
