The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Sunday arrested Inspector Sunita Bawa, Station House Officer (SHO) of Kot Ise Khan Police Station in Moga district, and Punjab Home Guard (PHG) personnel Guravtar Singh for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe.
According to a VB spokesperson, the arrests followed a complaint by a resident of Noorpur Hakima village in Moga.
The complainant alleged that PHG Guravtar Singh had initially demanded Rs 1 lakh, threatening to implicate him in a case already registered at Kot Ise Khan Police Station. The demand was later reduced to Rs 80,000, the complaint stated.
The complainant had already allegedly paid Rs 20,000 and was being asked to pay another Rs 60,000. During the investigation, the Vigilance Bureau found that Rs 50,000 from the demanded amount was allegedly meant for SHO Sunita Bawa.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the VB Range Ferozepur. Acting on the complaint, the bureau laid a trap and arrested Inspector Sunita Bawa while she was allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 from PHG Guravtar Singh in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station in Ferozepur. Further investigation is underway.
