The Miri-Piri Khalsa March, which travelled through different parts of Punjab, on Friday proceeded from Gurdwara Janam Asthan Baba Budha Sahib at Kathunangal towards Sri Akal Takht Sahib amid Sikh religious fervour and chants of Sikh religious slogans.
Speaking at the commencement of the march, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said the initiative had provided an opportunity to directly engage with the Sikh sangat in thousands of villages and cities across Punjab. He said the support received from the sangat reflected the fulfilment of the objectives with which the march was started.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj said the main message of the march was to connect the sangat with Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Gurmat ideology and the principle of the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. He said efforts were also made to protect youngsters from drugs, encourage them to participate in sports and constructive activities, and inspire them to earn through honest work.
He said a large number of youngsters pledged during the march to keep their hair uncut, stay away from drugs and live according to the principles of the Guru. He added that the march also provided an opportunity to listen to the views and questions of the sangat and address misconceptions concerning Sikh institutions and Panthic issues.
Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj thanked the sangat for the overwhelming response to the Miri-Piri Khalsa March.
SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said SGPC members, Panthic organisations, preachers and the sangat had carried out their responsibilities during the Miri-Piri Khalsa March with enthusiasm and dedication.
Dhami said the opportunity to interact with sangat in hundreds of villages and cities over the past several months was a blessing of the Guru. He said the participation of lakhs of devotees and the warm welcome received by the march at different places showed the community’s continued connection with the teachings of the Gurus and Panthic traditions.
He said the Miri-Piri Khalsa March, initiated under the guidance of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, was an important effort for Panthic awareness, propagation of Gurmat and connecting the younger generation with the teachings of the Gurus.
Dhami said that after the completion of the Khalsa March, the next phase would see Gurmat programmes and Amrit Sanchar activities intensified in every SGPC constituency. He called upon every SGPC member to work in their respective areas to connect more people with Gurmat, encourage them to participate in Amrit Sanchar and spread the teachings of the Guru.
The SGPC president thanked all members, constituency in-charges, volunteers, Panthic organisations, preachers and devotees who contributed to the march. He also expressed gratitude to Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, saying his leadership and Panthic spirit contributed to the march leaving a wide impact.
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia also praised the initiative undertaken by the SGPC under the guidance of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, saying such efforts would help connect youngsters with their heritage. He also thanked the sangat that participated in the programme at Majitha constituency.
At the event, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj and Jathedar Giani Tek Singh honoured the Panj Pyare and Nishan Sahib sevadars with siropas. Giani Parvinderpal Singh performed the sewa of placing the holy saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the palki sahib.
The sangat showed considerable enthusiasm for the Khalsa March, with devotees warmly welcoming it at different stages. The Panj Pyare and prominent personalities were honoured with siropas, while langars featuring various dishes were also organised for the devotees.
A religious diwan was organised on the occasion, during which ragi jathas performed Gurbani kirtan. Giani Parvinderpal Singh delivered katha vichar and shared Sikh history with the sangat.
SGPC members Advocate Bhagwant Singh Siyalka, Jodh Singh Samra, Surjit Singh Bhittewad, Amarjit Singh Bandala, MLA Ganeev Kaur, secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, additional secretary Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, deputy secretary Manjit Singh Talwandi, in-charge Mandeep Singh, head preacher Bhai Jagdev Singh, Bhupinder Singh Butter and Mohandeep Singh were among those present, along with a large number of devotees.
