Punjab Police conducted 596 raids across the state on Wednesday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, resulting in the arrest of 249 individuals and the recovery of eight weapons.
The campaign, aimed at making Punjab free of gangsters, entered its 246th day. Launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, the drive is being conducted by police teams from all districts in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab.
With the latest arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has reached 73,130.
Police teams also initiated preventive action against 174 individuals and arrested eight proclaimed offenders during Wednesday’s operations.
The Punjab Police appealed to people to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and criminal activities through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946. The information can be provided anonymously.
Meanwhile, the police continued their anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 571st day.
On Wednesday, police arrested 117 alleged drug smugglers and recovered 20.3 kg of heroin, 2 kg of opium, 15 kg of poppy husk, 737 intoxicant pills and Rs 500 in drug money from their possession.
With these arrests, the total number of alleged drug smugglers arrested during the 571-day campaign has reached 79,463.
As part of its de-addiction efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 21 individuals on Wednesday to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
