The Punjab Revenue Patwar Union on Wednesday called off its stir following a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, who directed officials to initiate the process for recruiting more than 1,000 Revenue Patwaris in the larger public interest.
Mann said the recruitment would provide relief to people and help ensure that routine administrative work does not suffer due to a shortage of staff. He said the recruitment process would be completed transparently in the coming days.
The Chief Minister also said the state government had, in principle, accepted the Patwaris’ demand to restore the Patwari cadre from the state level to the district level.
According to Mann, the move would streamline the recruitment process and remove administrative hurdles related to seniority and promotions across the state. He said the decision was being taken as part of efforts to introduce administrative reforms and improve the functioning of the department.
“Formal approval for restoring the Patwari cadre at the district level will soon be given by the Council of Ministers,” Mann said.
Mann welcomed the union’s decision to withdraw its agitation, saying the government had accepted its genuine demands.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to employee welfare, the Chief Minister urged Patwaris to work with dedication and ensure effective implementation of government welfare schemes at the grassroots level.
“I hope that Patwaris will discharge the responsibility entrusted to them by the government with utmost dedication, honesty and within the stipulated timeframe,” he said.
Mann also said the government would consider genuine employee demands sympathetically. At the same time, he urged the Patwar Union to ensure that service-related issues are resolved through dialogue and mutual consultation rather than agitation in the future.
