Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Friday inspected the ongoing water treatment project at Kaddowali near Majjupura in the Ajnala Assembly constituency and said the initiative aims to provide clean and safe drinking water to around 160 villages.
Aujla said the project will connect villages across three blocks through a network of approximately 285 km of pipelines to supply treated water.
He said contaminated water during the rainy season and poor groundwater quality in several rural areas remain major concerns, with unsafe drinking water posing potential health risks to residents.
160 Villages to Be Connected
Aujla said the project includes the construction of water supply reservoirs, tanks and other supporting infrastructure along with the treatment facility.
While work has been completed at several locations, some components are still pending. He said technical and other issues can arise during the execution of a project of this scale and assured that outstanding issues would be taken up with the concerned departments for early resolution.
He said a major portion of the project has already been completed and clean drinking water supply to the villages is expected to begin once the remaining work and technical issues are resolved.
The objective, he said, is to ensure that villagers have access to good-quality drinking water locally instead of having to depend on bottled water.
Aujla Appeals for Water Testing
Aujla appealed to sarpanches, panches, numberdars, panchayat members, block samiti members, former panchayat representatives and other rural representatives to get water samples from their respective villages tested.
He said up to 10 samples from each village can be submitted free of cost for testing, which would help identify issues related to the quality of groundwater being used by residents.
He also suggested that, wherever possible, both existing groundwater and water supplied through the new project should be tested to assess the difference in quality.
Aujla said his brother Sukhjinder Singh “Sukh” Aujla also remains in regular contact with residents regarding water supply and other village-level issues and gathers information about problems on the ground. He added that his office remains accessible to the public.
The MP said development benefits should reach residents irrespective of their political affiliation and that resolving public grievances and ensuring access to basic facilities was part of his responsibility as an elected representative.
Aujla urged villagers facing inadequate water supply, pipeline-related problems or other issues concerning the project to contact his office. Complaints can also be raised at the project complex being constructed near Kaddowali.
He said such complaints would be brought to the notice of the concerned authorities for necessary action and urged residents to cooperate in the completion of the project, stressing the importance of clean drinking water for public health.
