Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) wing in Amritsar has busted another alleged cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of a key operative and recovery of 10 kg heroin, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.
The action was carried out as part of the ongoing campaign against drugs in the state, being pursued under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sehajpreet Singh, a resident of Jathaul village in Amritsar district.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, preliminary investigation indicates that Sehajpreet Singh was allegedly in contact with a foreign-based smuggler and was receiving heroin consignments for onward supply as directed by the alleged handler.
The DGP said CI Amritsar had received specific information that the accused had received a large consignment of heroin through a drone near his residence and was preparing to deliver it to another party.
Acting on the information, CI teams raided the suspect’s residence and recovered 10 kg of heroin during the search, Yadav said.
The recovery comes two days after CI Amritsar claimed to have dismantled another cross-border smuggling module by arresting four persons and recovering 27 kg of heroin, a foreign-made .30 bore PX5 pistol and three cartridges.
Police are now investigating the latest case to establish its complete forward and backward linkages, identify other individuals allegedly involved and dismantle the wider cross-border narcotics network, the DGP said.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 59 dated September 17, 2026, under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
Further investigation is underway.
